Multilingualism
Rocket's life as a black market trader and all around illegal markets savvy creature have allowed him to interact with a wide variety of people. He picks up languages fast and is capable of learning a person's tone, inflection, and facial tics to understand them when the language barrier isn't surmountable.

PERSONALITY & HISTORY.
Bitter
A hard knock life makes for a hardened creature. Rocket has lived with the distrust and scrutiny of his species, his adopted parentage, and his chosen profession all his life, as well as feelings of abandonment and a general unwanted sensation that has followed him like wet dog smell through every segment of his life. It has hardened him into a bitter creature that views the world as a dangerous, unfriendly, and unforgiving place where only the strong can hope to survive without being preyed on or hurt.
Sarcastic
Early on in his life Rocket turned his bitter, cynical thoughts and rougher language into a defensive set of sarcastic shields. He has a dark and gloomy sense of humor and often covers his emotions with sarcastic remarks.
Cynical
Rocket doesn't view the world as a glass half empty place, but he does see people as generally filled with ill-will and cruelty. He doesn't believe in fate or destiny and he thinks praying to gods or ancestors, or whatever else people put their faith into to be a lot of bull. The world is a dark, dangerous place and he intends to survive it.
Aggressive
Rocket has been looked down on figuratively and literally all his life. He uses aggressive actions, words, and volume to make himself seen and heard. He doesn't like to back down and he riles very easily when insulted or challenged.
Prideful
Along a similar vein, Rocket has an enflated ego that he guards viciously. He's proud of his skills, the things he makes, and even his stupid jokes and he doesn't take kindly to anyone looking down on him or anything he says or makes.
Greedy
Rocket has a big hole in his life that he has never been able to fill. As a result he has turned to gold and treasure in his attempts to find something that will make him happy when he isn't out fighting, making money, or making things explode.
Lonely
Rocket was abandoned by his family and viewed his mentor's death as a second abandonment. The ostracizing he faced in his youth and on into his adulthood both for who he was and for what he ended up becoming has left him antisocial and unwilling to connect with people. He doesn't believe anyone genuinely wants to be around him and views attempts to get familiar with him as potential tricks or future pain he will have to endure when they eventually abandon him as well.
Protective
Rocket is fiercely protective and possessive of anything he sees as his. Whether this is money, a weapon, or a living thing, once Rocket decides something is part of his life he will fight viciously to keep it and protect it.
History.
Rocket was born in Atrómitos to a beastfolk family, but his life went downhill from there. Abandoned while his eyes were still closed, Rocket was found by a traveling gremlin merchant who took him in, adding him to his odd collection of reclaimed rubbish. The gremlin returned to Thalassa with his haul and raised Rocket there, taking the young Raccoon with him from city to city when he took to his travels and teaching him all the tricks and subtleties of his trades. Rocket was a quick learner and took to his teachings with a ravenously eager enthusiasm. He quickly surpassed his mentor's skills both in crafting trinkets and weapons and in stealthily swiping coinpurses and other valuables from unassuming individuals.
Due to the reputation raccoons had for being thieves, his status as an orphan, and his gremlin adopted parentage, Rocket suffered a lot of criticism, suspicion, and ill-will even as a young child. No one trusted him, no one seemed to want him around, and everyone watched him a little too closely, eager to catch him slipping up. The constant skepticism and suspicion thrown at him and the inescapable feeling of being unwanted, looked down on, and seen as something to be avoided, Rocket grew up rough around the edges, antisocial, and bitter. His frustrations took hold in an aggressive and cynical streak, and Rocket began to lean heavily on sarcasm and material possessions. He was greedy, trying to replace the need for companionship and fill the hole loneliness had carved into him. Early into his teen years, Rocket's mentor was killed by an orc that had caught him pilfering their coin purse. Rocket found himself suddenly even more alone and turned the painful feeling of loss into one of bitter anger at his mentor for leaving him alone and directionless in a world far too big for him. He joined up with a band of teenage street rats and misfits, never hanging around them for long but pulling with them to work toward common goals. He never let himself form close attachments with people again, preferring to make his interactions with the same people few and far between unless necessity called for it. As he grew older he occasionally ran with a band of misfit thieves who stole from the wealthy elite to redistribute to the less fortunate, but only after they took their own cut for the services they so graciously provided. As he grew stronger and older he made a name for himself as a weaponsmith and a bounty hunter. He wound up traveling between the kingdoms frequently whenever he went after a bounty. Shortly before the war, he made Atrómitos his home again. He was killed on his way back to Atrómitos, stabbed in the back by a bounty who got loose during the chaos of a battle that had come down hard on him during the return trip. Code by Yuff |
